Investing in research to find a cure for neuroendocrine cancer

Judith (Judy) Jones passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, at the age of 78 after a courageous 20-month battle with neuroendocrine cancer.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she first attended with her loving parents Doug and Florence Watmough.  She spent many years as an administrative assistant at Curry College, where she was known as a friend to all, always offering her time when someone needed help or advice.  She then went to work for her son-in-law Steve, at his general contracting company.  She enjoyed combining family with hard work and spending time working with Steve.

Judy’s true joy was being with her family. She spent 56 loving years with her husband Art, and together they raised Mark and Sandie. A great mother, Judy was loved by her children in so many ways. She was especially proud of her five grandchildren Alex, Jake, Will, Coop, and Zack. Judy never took a moment with her family for granted; she genuinely, unconditionally loved them. Joyous trips, sports events, days at the beach, walks with her sister Eileen, talks on the patio with her daughter-in-law Sharon, or walking the streets of Nantucket with her loved ones were priceless memories that she cherished. 

When she was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer, she showed her incredible desire to live, exhausting all treatment strategies with the goal of extending her life. She was not ready to go. Judy served as the inspiration to her entire family and was strong until the end.  Her family has partnered with NETRF in hopes that through Judy’s legacy, they can help find solutions so people will not have to endure what Judy did.  

The Judith Jones Memorial Fund for NET Research will fund NETRF grants to scientists with promising research initiatives to advance knowledge of neuroendocrine cancer, which remains poorly understood and underfunded, despite its growing incidence. The Jones family has set a $20,000 fundraising goal to remember Judy and to advance scientific research to develop insights to improve treatments for all patients living with neuroendocrine cancer. Their hope is to involve all of Judy’s colleagues, friends, and family in this meaningful and lasting effort.
