150,000 Steps for a Cure

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Tumors (NETs) in my small bowel. By the time we knew what we were dealing with, it had already spread to my liver. Eventually, the tumors also affected my heart, and I needed open-heart surgery to repair the damage.

Since then, there have been surgeries, treatments, plenty of appointments, and more than a few plots twists I definitely did not have on my life bingo card. I’m still here, still moving forward, and still hoping for something that every person living with neuroendocrine cancer desperately wants: a cure.

As a retired school librarian, I’ve always believed in the power of research and the importance of finding good information—and now I have a very personal reason to care about both. That’s why I’m raising money for the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation (NETRF). NETRF funds research specifically focused on neuroendocrine tumors, helping researchers better understand these cancers and work toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

So I’m putting my feet to work!

For 31 days, I’ll walk 2 miles a day—62 miles total, or about 150,000 steps. And because I apparently don’t know how to do anything halfway, my goal is to raise $10,000 for NETRF along the way.

If you’d like to join me, please consider donating—big or small. Every dollar supports research that could make a difference for me, the people I’ve met along this journey, and those who will be diagnosed after us.

62 miles. 150,000 steps. $10,000 for a cure.

I’ll do the walking. You can help me do the rest.

Event Dates
