Investing in Research in Neuroendocrine Cancer

Brandon was diagnosed back in January of 2020 with stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer. His cancer was primarily located in the pancreas and had metastasized to the liver, lungs, and lymph nodes in the stomach. In May 2020, he sought out the NET specialists at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. His treatment brought him some relief and his condition stabilized by the summer. Brandon felt better than ever and we had a lot of hope from his care.  By the fall, the discomfort of his cancer had returned and he was unable to participate in further treatment. We all lost Brandon on January 10, 2021 and he will be terribly missed. He fought valiantly against this horrible disease. Our hope is to create awareness and raise money for research in this rare cancer that deserves so much attention.

It’s difficult to put into words what an incredible friend Brandon was. This quote from his favorite book, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho might be the closest you can get: “When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.” If you were lucky enough to know him, without a doubt, you became a better person. No matter who you were, whether it be a lifelong friend or if it was your first time meeting him, he made you feel like you were the most important person in the world at that moment. His friends and family are forever grateful for his unmatched example of how to live with purpose and joy even until the end.

Through the swift efforts of Brandon’s girlfriend, Kensie Smith, a fund has been created at the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation (NETRF) to honor the loving memory of Brandon. The Brandon Raabe Tribute Fund for Neuroendocrine Cancer seeks to raise $25,000.00 to make a larger impact on NET research. Friends and family can invest in a brighter future for the patients and families who are seeking personalized, evidence-based NET treatment, a goal that can only be achieved with increased funding for research.  All donations to the Brandon Raabe Tribute Fund for Neuroendocrine Cancer will be utilized for research initiatives for neuroendocrine cancer.

NETRF is the leading private funder of NET cancer research and since 2005, has invested more than $30 million in neuroendocrine tumor research by leading scientists at renowned research institutions around the globe. NETRF is supported by charitable donations from individuals, foundations and third-party events.
