Updates to NETRF’s Board of Scientific Advisors

NETRF BOSA Leadership Transition

The Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation is pleased to share updates on the leadership and membership of its Board of Scientific Advisors (BOSA).

Effective June 1, 2026, Dawn Quelle, PhD, has concluded her tenure as BOSA Chair. Dr. Quelle became Co-Chair in 2021 and has provided exceptional scientific leadership during a period of significant growth in NETRF’s research programs. In recognition of her long service and continued dedication to our mission, she assumes the role of Chair Emeritus.

Daniel M. Halperin, MD, previously serving as Vice Chair, has been appointed BOSA Chair. Dr. Halperin is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine and a member of the gastrointestinal oncology team at Winship Cancer Institute. A recognized leader in neuroendocrine cancer, he specializes in the clinical care and treatment of neuroendocrine cancer with particular expertise in immunotherapy and radioligand therapy, and has played a leading role in clinical trials advancing these approaches for patients. He brings both deep field knowledge and strong institutional familiarity to the role.

Iacovos Michael, PhD, has been appointed Vice Chair. Dr. Michael is a Scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute and Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, where his lab focuses on cancer cell plasticity and metastasis in neuroendocrine tumors, including how pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors dedifferentiate during disease progression, the role of microRNAs in driving tumor growth and invasion, and the development of miRNA-based liquid biopsies for NET detection and monitoring. He has been an engaged and valued BOSA member since joining the board.

“The BOSA is central to everything NETRF does scientifically, from grant review to strategic direction,” says Anna Greene, PhD, NETRF Chief Scientific Officer. “These changes reflect both our gratitude for Dr. Quelle’s years of leadership and our excitement about the expertise Drs. Halperin, Michael, and Gay each bring to this work.”

NETRF extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Quelle for her years of leadership and looks forward to this next chapter under Dr. Halperin’s guidance.

New BOSA Member

NETRF is also pleased to welcome Carl Gay, MD, PhD, as a newly approved member of the Board of Scientific Advisors. Dr. Gay is an Associate Professor in the Department of Thoracic-Head and Neck Medical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where his research focuses on the biology and treatment of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and other high-grade extrapulmonary neuroendocrine carcinomas. His work spans tumor heterogeneity and transcriptional plasticity, therapeutic resistance, novel targeted therapies including antibody-drug conjugates and T-cell engagers, and biomarker-guided treatment strategies. He also leads clinical trials in SCLC and high-grade NECs. His expertise in the molecular underpinnings of these aggressive cancers and in moving discoveries toward clinical application is a strong addition to the BOSA.
