Lauren is the Director of Research for the NET Research Foundation, focusing exclusively on advancing the foundation’s research portfolio. Prior to this role, Lauren served for five years as Executive Director, propelling the Foundation’s research agenda to the forefront in the field. Under her leadership, the organization significantly increased its fundraising, expanded its research portfolio internationally, relaunched its award-winning website and expanded its patient education programs to include multiple regional patient education seminars.
In 2010, Lauren was invited to address the US FDA on behalf of neuroendocrine cancer patients. She advocated for improvements to the process by which treatments for rare diseases are approved and regulated to ensure effective patient care. In 2011, Lauren spoke before the Oncologic Drug Advisory Committee (ODAC), an FDA advisory committee, during a hearing regarding two potential treatment options for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor patients. Both of the drugs, everolimus and sunitinib malate received FDA approval one month later.
She came to NETRF from Health Advances, a boutique consulting company focusing on the healthcare and biotech industries. Prior to Health Advances, Lauren worked in the New York and Boston offices of Goldman Sachs & Co. in their Mortgage Sales and Trading division. At Goldman, Lauren was responsible for leading the structuring of mortgage securitization as well as managing key relationships with Goldman’s customers.
Lauren graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Theoretical Mathematics where she developed a mathematical model for incidence rates of pancreatic cancer. Lauren is an avid swimmer and enjoys participating in NETRF events and meetings nationwide. Lauren was also the captain of the school’s varsity swimming and water polo teams.
