As Director of Research for the NET Research Foundation (NETRF) Effie is responsible for developing and implementing NETRF’s research strategy, advancing the foundation’s research portfolio, as well as communicating research outcomes to key stakeholders and major donors, to ensure the availability of an ongoing pipeline of assets. As a representative of NETRF, Effie interacts with scientists in the field to promote the organization’s mission, foster collaborative relationships, and attract new researchers to the field. She is passionate about helping support the needs of scientists and clinicians worldwide, who work towards advancing biomedical research and creating new and more effective therapies for patients.
“I am very excited to have joined NETRF and contribute to the mission of the Foundation”, says Dr. Tzameli. “I am committed to working towards finding and funding innovative and cutting-edge research to help decipher the molecular underpinnings of neuroendocrine tumors”.
Effie came to NETRF from Cell Press where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Reviews Journal “Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism” for over five years. Prior to that, Effie was Junior faculty at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. She has a deep understanding and knowledge of diverse areas within life sciences, and strong technical expertise that ranges from test tube assays to the generation of animal models. Her research work has appeared in several high impact peer reviewed journals including MCB, JCI, Cell Metabolism, Nature and Nature Medicine. She has also written several editorials.
Effie has a Ph.D. in molecular biology from Boston University School of Medicine. She completed her post-doctoral studies at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and at Baylor College of Medicine. She lives in Brookline with her husband and twin kids.
