NETRF Introduces Patient Guide to Neuroendocrine Cancer

On World NET Cancer Awareness Day, November 10, 2019, we will introduce a new educational resource for patients, family members, and caregivers. Our 64-page guide to neuroendocrine cancer is a hands-on reference for the tests, treatments, and management of gastrointestinal, pancreatic, lung, and adrenal neuroendocrine tumors. It offers a solid overview of NETs for the newly diagnosed patient, serves as a helpful reference for longer-term survivors, and gives practical tips on nutrition, diarrhea, and patient/provider communication for those at any stage of the disease.

A Life Remembered

The late Carl Schaad captured on canvas the beauty of New England and Italy. In September, family and friends gathered to celebrate Carl’s talent and spirit at a Retrospective Art Show and Sale. Carl died from neuroendocrine cancer in 2011 leaving a legacy of paintings. (MORE)

Annual Meeting Highlights NET Progress

The North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (NANETS) came to Boston for its 2019 symposium. NET leaders from around the globe, including a scientist who was awarded a Nobel Prize days after the conference, took to the podium to share progress and priorities for NET treatment and research. Patients Hold a Key to Research Progress

You may be surprised to learn that excess tumor tissue is worth its weight in gold to NET researchers. NETRF and Pattern.org have been working to collect neuroendocrine tissue samples for a cell line project with the Broad Institute. This collaborative project aims to create a publicly available tumor cell line. Having a reliable NET cell line could expedite our molecular understanding of NETs and accelerate drug testing and development.
